Wubi: Pain-free Ubuntu installer

I ran across this software on download.com and decided that it was well worth mentioning.

From: Download.com

Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users that can bring you to the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way. No need to burn a CD, just run the installer, enter a password for the new account, and click “Install”. Wubi will download and prepare the required files, and ask you to reboot in order to complete the installation. You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu.

Building your first Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC): Part 1

Recently, a friend asked me for my opinion of some of the latest HTPCs (AKA: Media Center PCs). I told him what I knew of the technology and pointed him to an HTPC manufacturer that I had seen featured in PC Magazine named Moneual. That spurred an interest in his fascination that led to our thorough research of HTPC makers and distributors and the final decision to purchase an Antec HTPC case. In this upcoming tutorial, I will show you how to find the perfect case, components and OS needed to get your HTPC up and running. You may already have the parts necessary to get started but, in my personal opinion, the case is what makes these machines perfect for any living room.

Getting started with Ubuntu!

I have finally launched the Linux based OS Ubuntu, on my Toshiba laptop. I’ve decided to cover my migration from Windows XP & Vista to Ubuntu here in my blog. I’ve always wanted to escape the confinements of Microsoft Windows and journey into the wide-realm of readily available, open-source alternatives. Linux has been in my sights for quite some time now and after realizing the popularity of one of it’s latest distrubtions, Ubuntu, decided to take a shot and see how it would do against other mainstream, costly operating systems. I’ve been running Ubuntu 8.04 a few days now and it has been running fine, given a few hours of tweaking… In my upcoming posts, I will be describing what technical challenges I had to overcome to get my Ubuntu up and running. Also, a piece of software developed by Sun Microsystems known as VirtualBox that has made transitioning a few of my Windows-based software programs (especially Adobe CS3) slightly easier.
