Michael Harper’s Tech & Art Blog

So now about me. This is Michael Harper and I’m currently a student at Savannah Technical College where I’m working on my Cisco certifications and my Networking Specialist degree. After I obtain my two-year I’m transferring to Armstrong Atlantic State University for my bachelors in computer science. Outside of school I’m preparing for my Network+ exam within the month and my A+ exam next month. I’m currently working independently as an IT consultant and web designer in an attempt to pay for my schooling. I was born in Savannah, GA and have enjoyed working with computers since I was young lad. I was fortunate enough to have a sister and other relatives who introduced me to computers at a young age and continued to teach me as I grew older. I did small-time computer repair when I was in highschool and even had the opportunity to teach two computers courses there before I graduated. After highschool I jumped into digital recording for myself and other musicians. It was an enjoyable opportunity to collaborate creatively with other artists and musicians. At some point on my travels I met a friend who was working at a print shop in Forsyth, GA and decided to take a job with him doing digital layout and design. It was there that I began designing databases for statiscal and printing purposes and automated many of the tideous typsetting jobs involved with printing. After a year of working at the printshop, I was introduced to the Chief of the Georgia Fire Academy who mentioned that he was looking for was someone to implement an inventory database for his training facility. That’s how I was introduced to firefighting. I worked at the training facility doing database administration and firefighting. Strange combination but it worked for what it was. After the Chief who introduced me to firefighting left, I moved back to Savannah and took on the job as IT technician with PCS, Inc. I’m currently looking for anyone in the Savannah or surrounding area who is looking to collaborate on projects together, maybe even put together an IT association for the benefit of learning.
